Contest Theme: Time
Prize: Three rolls of film developed for free
From the Artist: "Eastern Columbia Building, Los Angeles, CA. While staying in downtown LA, I became obsessed with this 1930 Art Deco dream. I spent the weekend taking photos of it, trying to capture the gold detail and turquoise terra cotta tiles. This photo became my favorite, taken right at the top of the hour, framed by film burn, a tree branch and the trim from a nearby Beaux Arts building. Shot on Kodak Color Plus 200 with a Canon AE-1."
What We Liked: We love seeing #firstoftheroll posts since these frames capture so much of the magic of shooting film in this day and age. In this specific frame, we like the “happy accident” captured, since it feels like a metaphor for the passage of time and the effect it has on our cities. Photography is an incredible way to capture beautiful old buildings and landmarks that may not be around forever.
