(he/him) is a born and raised Philadelphian. He was a part of the generation that used Flickr to find a photographic community and learn the ins and outs of image-making through various forums. Gifted his first camera, he found a connection to its magical abilities and took it with him everywhere, adopting a street photographer mentality and creating images that surveyed the world around him.
He had his first official gig with Visit Philadelphia after being approached by a friend about a project they were working on. Later, McDowell realized the potential of his images and started to take the trade into consideration as a full-time practice. He uses an array of different cameras, sometimes using his phone and other times a film camera—although surprisingly, I find it hard to decipher at some points. David has developed a keen eye for the images he wants to produce and it shows within the way he makes a photograph, regardless of the equipment he chooses or of his initial knowledge of the meaning behind the images.
