PL: What got you interested in photography?

MW:  I got interested in photography when my sister and I would buy disposable cameras from the drug store. We would take pictures of special events happening throughout our lives. My boyfriend and I have started to get really into photography and have documented our journey through shooting film while traveling in our van.

PL: What type of camera do you shoot with?

MW: Mainly point and shoots like the owl sureshot, I have had some bad luck with keeping point and shoots alive but they are easy to carry and snap a quick photo.

PL: When taking pictures, what are some objects or elements or feelings within a scene that inspire you to take a photo?

MW: I’m obsessed with taking pictures of animals. I love their expressions.

PL: Of the pictures you submitted, can you share an interesting story about one?

MW: The picture with the children hanging on the pole and the pictures of the dogs were at Coney Island Mermaid day parade. We brought our cat in the van and shot a bunch of film throughout the day. It was so fun seeing so many people dressed up as merman and merwomen.

PL: What do you enjoy most about digital/film photography and what is challenging about it?

MW: I love never knowing how my photo is going to turn out with film. It’s always a fun surprise. The most challenging is starting to learn manual cameras after using the point and shoots for so long.

PL: How would you like to grow this collection of photographs?

MW: My boyfriend and I are trying to make a photography book of our travels in our van. I write postcards to document the different trips we take as well and we are hoping to incorporate those in the book.
