PL: What got you interested in photography?
MK: When I was 16 my father gifted me my first Nikon digital camera. High school me became quickly interested in macro photography — I liked seeing the smallest details of tiny subjects, especially in nature.
I then started taking photography classes at school and found myself enjoying the challenge of each assignment given to me and my peers. I especially enjoyed critiques because I felt inspired by what my classmates were doing and I loved hearing their feedback on my work.
I stopped shooting for many years but a few years back I became interested in photography again — except this time I wanted to shoot film. My mother generously gifted me her film cameras from the 80's that she used to use. Nine years out from college and now I exclusively shoot film on these cameras and have no intention of stopping again.

PL: What type of camera do you shoot with?

PL: When taking pictures, what are some objects or elements or feelings within a scene that inspire you to take a photo?
MK: I am very inspired by the San Francisco photographers (i.e. Fred Lyon & Alma Lavenson). If you look at their work you can sometimes see some resemblance in what I'm hoping to capture.
I really enjoy capturing light and shadow and how the two play together and compliment one another. I like it so much because light and shadow represents the passing of time. How the light and shadow look in one moment will be totally different if you come back in an hour. I also love to document my travels and hope to capture special moments — or ordinary moments that become extraordinary because of other elements I see like lines, composition, depth and color.

PL: What do you enjoy most about digital/film photography and what is challenging about it?

PL: Do you have any goals or ideas of how you want to grow this collection of photographs?
