PL: What got you interested in photography?

LD: Curiosity and support. I've always felt like I've had a good eye about things, so ending up in some photo classes in college with very fun and supportive people made photography really click into place for me. It felt like a ritual I kept wanting to come back to!

PL: What type of camera do you shoot with?

LD: I shoot on a Hasselblad 500cm! It is my baby. I saved up enough to buy one last year, and I haven't put it down.

PL: When taking pictures, what are some objects or elements or feelings within a scene that inspire you to take a photo?

LD: I've thought about this one a lot. I'd say my style is more voyeuristic. I prefer spur of the moment shots, because it affirms a good eye and a gut feeling, and ultimately I think I aim to get people to see what I see! Words can take too long sometimes.

PL: Of the pictures you submitted, can you share an interesting story about one?

LD: I'm a sucker for really long exposures, and one of them on here was a 6 hour long exposure of me sleeping! It seemed like a fun idea, but I totally anticipated it to come back blank. It was also cross processed because it was slide film and I had no idea they used different chemicals at the time, so my expectations were low. But that shot ended up being the only one to come back perfectly exposed! I learned a lot, like how I clearly sleep like a stone.

PL: What do you enjoy most about digital/film photography and what is challenging about it?

LD: What I enjoy about it is exactly what makes it so challenging. I only shoot film, and the risk involved of really screwing a roll up even if things go right is very fun for me! If a good roll goes bad, it's humbling, and if a mundane roll surprises you, you get some sick photos! But the risk also helps you feel involved in the practice and make each shot more memorable.

PL: How would you like to grow this collection of photographs?

LD: I'd love to get more into classic portraits to make it a bit of a side hustle, but regardless I'll be shooting any chance I get, and even if these photos are just for me and my friends, that's good enough for me!
