Our Lab

Sending your film to a lab for processing is safe and simple when it’s packaged properly. At PhotoLounge, we offer free USPS mail-in film processing from anywhere in the United States. Just place your film processing order, pack your film securely with your order number, print your prepaid shipping label, and drop it in the mail.

No matter where you're located, your film will be processed quickly and professionally at our Philadelphia lab.

If you're just getting started with film photography, it helps to understand how to choose the right film camera, how ISO, aperture, and shutter speed affect your images, and how different film stocks impact color and contrast. Dialing in these basics before you shoot can make a big difference in your final results once your film is developed.

Can You Mail Film to Be Processed?

Yes, you can absolutely mail film to be processed. In fact, film processing by mail is one of the most common ways photographers get their rolls processed and developed today.

Film is durable and travels safely through USPS when properly packaged. When you use PhotoLounge’s prepaid USPS shipping label, tracking is included on every shipment, so you can follow your package all the way to our Philadelphia film lab!

How to Mail 35mm Film for Processing

If you're wondering how to mail 35mm film, the process is simple.
Before sending your roll, make sure it’s fully rewound into the canister. If you’re new to 35mm photography, proper loading makes a big difference in preventing light leaks and missed frames — especially when learning how to load 35mm film correctly.

Follow these steps:

1. Keep Your Film Dry and Protected

Make sure your film rolls are completely dry before mailing. Store them in their original canisters, or use a plastic sandwich bag to guard against accidental water exposure. Original film canisters are crush-proof and liquid-tight—perfect for shipping.

Tip: Disposable cameras don’t require additional padding; the film is already protected inside the camera body. When you're ready to send it in, our disposable camera developing service includes professional processing and optional scans, with free prepaid USPS mail-in shipping.

2. Include Your Order Number

Include your order number (ex: #145310) inside the package—this helps us keep track of your track of your film once it arrives at our lab.

3. Generate and print your prepaid USPS label.

After placing your order, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a link to a shipping form. Enter your address, generate your prepaid USPS label, and print it at home.

Tracking is included automatically. Attach the label securely to your package, and your film is ready to ship to our Philadelphia lab.

4. Choose the Right Packaging

A box or envelope will both work. Avoid excessive packaging—a package no larger than a standard 8.5” × 11” sheet of paper is ideal for a few film rolls.

    • Envelope tips: Use a sturdy or tear-proof envelope and tape it securely.
    • Box tips: Keep it small, with minimal extra padding—just enough to prevent shifting.

5. Drop it in a mailbox.

Once sealed and labeled, drop your package in any USPS mailbox. That’s it!
