The PhotoLounge Mail-In Film Order Process
Your order tells our lab exactly what you are sending in and how you want your images back. Before checkout, you can choose:
- Your film type and format, including C-41 color or black-and-white 35mm, 120 film and disposable cameras
- Standard or high-resolution scans
- Optional prints, including size, finish and border preferences
- Whether you want your negatives returned
- Whether you’d prefer your negatives sleeved in strips or kept uncut
After checkout, your confirmation email includes your order number and a link to create the prepaid USPS label. Put the order number inside the package so our team can match the film to your selections when it arrives.

What Happens After You Mail Film to PhotoLounge?
1. We Check In Your Film and Email You
When your package reaches PhotoLounge, our team marks the order as received. We send an email confirming that it arrived, so you are not left wondering whether your rolls made it to the lab.
Keep that arrival message in mind when estimating timing: shipping time and film-processing turnaround are separate. Lab turnaround begins after your package has arrived and been checked in.
2. Your Film Is Developed In-House in Philadelphia
Your rolls stay with our team at our Philadelphia film lab . We process C-41 color film and black-and-white film in-house, including 35mm film , 120 film , and disposable cameras .
Keeping the work in-house helps us provide fast, consistent results and gives customers a real team to contact when they have a question about an order.
3. We Scan Your Images to the Resolution You Selected
After processing, we scan your film on our Noritsu HS1800. Standard 300 dpi scans are a practical choice for sharing online and making standard 4x6-inch prints. High-resolution 600 dpi scans preserve more detail and provide added flexibility for larger prints and editing.
If you shoot regularly, the PhotoLounge Film Photography Club includes free high-resolution scans with every film-processing order, along with other member benefits.
4. Your Scans Arrive by Email Through Dropbox
As soon as your scans are ready, we send you an email with a Dropbox link. You can open, view and download the files on a phone or computer; you do not need a Dropbox account.
Download your scans and save a backup after delivery. The email is your notification that the digital portion of the order is ready — it does not mean your negatives or prints have already reached you by mail.
5. We Prepare Your Negatives and Any Prints for Return
If you requested your negatives back, we prepare them according to the preference selected in your order and return them by USPS. If you added prints, they are packaged with your negatives for the return trip.
This final physical-delivery step takes place after processing and scanning. Your Dropbox link will always arrive before the returned negatives and prints do.

How Long Does PhotoLounge Mail-In Film Developing Take?
Most C-41 color film is ready the next business day during the week after it reaches our lab. Black-and-white film follows a longer lab schedule and is typically completed in several business days.
Your total mail-in turnaround time includes three separate windows:
- Shipping to Philadelphia: The time USPS takes to deliver your package.
- Lab turnaround: The time between PhotoLounge check-in and completed processing or scans.
- Return shipping: Additional transit time if you requested negatives or prints by mail.
Weekends, holidays, unusually large orders and carrier delays can add time.

How do I receive my film scans?

Will my negatives be returned?
Yes, if you request negatives to be returned in the order form. Your negatives can be sleeved in strips or kept uncut based on the option you select. If you order prints, they are sent back with the negatives.
Can I mail 35mm, 120 film or disposable cameras to PhotoLounge?
Yes. PhotoLounge accepts C-41 color and black-and-white 35mm film, 120 film and disposable cameras for mail-in developing. Select the matching film type and service options when you place the order.
Is the prepaid label included?
Yes. Choose “I'm shipping it to you” when placing your film-processing order. Your confirmation email will include a link to create a prepaid USPS label for sending the film to PhotoLounge.
Does processing time include shipping?
No. The lab's turnaround begins after PhotoLounge receives and checks in your package. Allow separate time for shipping to the lab and, when selected, for negatives and prints to travel back to you.
