It’s early October, the kind of fall morning where the sun still shines like it’s summer, but the crispy chill in the air says otherwise. The field is bright, dry, and a little worn down by the week of stomping children on their pumpkin picking trips.
By the time Emily, the subject, got to the pumpkin patch, it had already been picked over, and the best ones were scattered across the field. The rest of the group had wandered off to other corners, perhaps to check out the tractor waiting at the edge of the trees. She stayed in the middle of it all, clutching her grocery bag containing her precious pumpkin.
Emily poses for the photographer, her mom, who is also one of the trip’s chaperones, with a look of serious thought. Her eyes seem to be somewhere else, maybe on a better pumpkin that might be just a few steps away. Or she’s just moments away from showing off her special find to the camera.
