(he/him) is a multimedia artist born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut. He found his love for photography through a friend in college, soon realizing the ways in which the medium exhibited the power to inform and create change. He graduated from Hampshire College, later pursuing an MFA in Photography at The University of Hartford.

The foundation of Justin’s work rests on the pillars of humanity and love. In these selected photographs from his series A Facefull of Mangoes, Emmanuel shares fleeting moments of intimacy between his family that depict Black people in ways that reject and resist systematic racism. He has the wonderful ability to envelop his subjects with gentleness that grows from a deep admiration for the people he calls family.

“There is an intentionality that people harbor when photographing family.
It’s an observation of what I would describe as love.”
