Art School Kids celebrates the creative spaces where creativity can flourish as physical buildings and as meaningful communities of artists and makers. When Scout acquired the former University of the Arts buildings, Hamilton and Furness Halls, they salvaged an important space for art. And when they recovered unattributed slide collections documenting students at the university in the 1970s and 1980s, they knew these captured the spirit they seek to keep alive.

Spaces evolve along with the people who inhabit them. Buildings close, collectives form, new venues emerge, but the spirit of creativity endures. In digitizing these found slides, we honor not only the students and their works, but also the city’s ever-changing creative landscape.

The artistic temperament lives on even when its house is bought and sold, and its contents scattered. The spirit of Art School Kids will always have a home in Philadelphia — and in its people.

Join us for a reception at PhotoLounge on Friday, November 7th from 7-9pm for refreshments, wine, music, and to celebrate that passionate Philadelphia energy.
